Job summary

Catlin Gabel School is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support teachers and students in the classroom, outdoors, and in after-school programs. You will help create an inclusive learning environment, supervise children, and assist with materials, technology, and classroom organization.

The role requires collaboration with staff, ongoing professional development, and adherence to safety and background check requirements.

Qualifications

• AA in education or related field preferred; equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.
• At least six months of experience implementing activities for young children in childcare or educational settings.
• Enrollment in Oregon Office of Child Care’s Central Background Registry (OCBC).
• Food Handlers certificate and current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to attain within 30 days of hiring date.
• Must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students in classroom, lunchroom, outdoors, and at recess.
• Support teaching team with materials preparation, technology support, and classroom management.
• Lead small and whole-group activities across subject areas as directed.
• Demonstrate willingness to learn conflict resolution, differentiation, and classroom management strategies.
• Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the school community.
• Provide an inclusive, caring environment respecting each child’s identity.
• Provide before/after school care on applicable days and during Community Connections.
• Pursue professional learning opportunities (minimum 15 hours/year).
• Attend orientations, staff meetings, and trainings as required.
• Maintain current certifications and comply with Oregon Registry requirements.
