Job summary

Abilities First, Inc. in Hyde Park, NY seeks a dedicated Teacher Assistant to support our education center. You will attend to daily student needs, assist the teacher with activities, and cover the classroom in the teacher’s absence at our Hyde Park location.

The role requires experience in early childhood and special education, NYS Teacher Assistant Certification, and a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for all children.

Qualifications

• Experience within early childhood & special education.
• NYS Teacher Assistant Certification required for Teacher Assistant level.
• Ability to work with interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility of the classroom in the absence of the Classroom Teacher.
• Follows classroom schedule ensuring that individual student therapies and IEP goals are implemented, and appropriate data is collected.
• Assists students using classroom educational computer programs.
• Assists the Classroom Teacher and Teacher Aides in the preparation and development of teacher made materials.
• Assists in the organization and arrangement of the classroom to meet each student’s individual needs.
• Escorts and assists students to and from school buses to promote independence.
