Job summary

The IDEAL School of Manhattan in New York, NY seeks a College & Post-Secondary Counselor to guide students through the transition from high school to their next chapter. The role supports diverse learners, including neurodiverse students, in pursuing four-year, vocational, or specialized programs.

Responsibilities include advising on college applications, essays, testing, and arranging college visits. Collaboration with teachers and families is essential to develop a comprehensive postsecondary

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Higher Education or related field.
• Experience in a school-based setting.
• Min. three years experience in high school college counseling.
• Commitment to inclusive learning environment and social justice.
• Ability to collaborate as part of a team, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with diverse student profiles.
• Strong knowledge of college admissions processes and financial aid.
• Organized and able to manage multiple students and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of Grades 9-12 and guide college applications and essay writing.
• Teach one or two sections of a High School class.
• Identify and advocate for a wide range of post-secondary options.
• Support students in connecting educational goals with career pathways.
• Organize college fairs, financial aid nights, and workshops.
• Maintain records using Blackbaud and Naviance.
