Job summary

Western Governors University (WGU) is seeking an IT Security Analyst II to protect our applications, systems, and networks. You will lead incident response, perform digital forensics, and work with cross-functional teams across Infrastructure and risk professionals.

This in-office role requires five days per week in Salt Lake City, UT or Raleigh, NC, with a swing shift 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM aligned to Eastern or Mountain Time, and a comprehensive benefits package included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT security, CS, engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of information security experience.
• Experience analyzing SIEM, network, event, security, and IDS logs.
• Experience with MITRE ATT&CK framework.
• Scripting experience (Bash, Python) with automation.
• Familiarity with compliance and regulatory programs.
• Experience designing and deploying security solutions.
• Knowledge of incident handling, forensics, IDS, firewalls, and related security tech.
• Strong SIEM content rules knowledge.
• Understanding of AWS/cloud security, CI/CD security, IaC, and data encryption.

Responsibilities

• Lead incident response and related security efforts including forensics, monitoring, IDS/IPS, and automation.
• Investigate security events using SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoints, and other technologies.
• Analyze logs and network traffic to identify malicious or anomalous activity.
• Lead or participate in tactical response to security risks across environments.
• Develop SIEM rules and use cases aligned with MITRE ATT&CK.
• Collaborate with architects and risk teams to implement security controls.
• Improve incident response through documentation, automation, and best practices.
