Responsible for supervising the inbound inventory workflow from Receiving → Special Handling → Putaway → Inventory Available, with overall responsibility for receiving accuracy, inventory integrity, and ensuring product is processed and made available for use in a timely manner. Leads inventory control activities, including cycle counting and discrepancy resolution, and oversees special handling and put away activities. Partners with the Inventory Supervisor and other cross-functional teams to maintain accurate inventory and efficient inbound operations. Directly supervises special handling activities and receiving lift drivers.
Receiving Operations & Inbound Workflow:
- Coordinate daily receiving operations and inbound workflow, including unloading, verification, inspection coordination, receiving transactions, special handling, and movement to put away
- Ensure inbound shipments are received accurately against purchase orders, transfer orders, packing lists, and other applicable receiving documentation
- Monitor the flow of product from receipt through special handling and put away to ensure inventory becomes available for use in a timely manner
- Coordinate with the Inbound Operations Manager regarding inbound priorities, workload, exceptions, and issues that could affect receiving accuracy or product availability
- Ensure receiving and inventory transactions are completed accurately and timely in the ERP/WMS system
- Maintain receiving documentation and support the resolution of damaged, short, over, or otherwise discrepant shipments
Inventory Control, Cycle Counting & Discrepancy Resolution:
- Maintain strong inventory control practices to support accurate on-hand balances and warehouse location integrity
- Lead and coordinate cycle counting activities; review count results and ensure discrepancies are investigated, documented, and resolved promptly
- Investigate receiving, location, quantity, and inventory discrepancies and work with appropriate functions to identify root causes and corrective actions
- Maintain appropriate controls around inventory adjustments, quarantined inventory, non-conforming materials, and other inventory exceptions
- Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, Quality, and Distribution leadership as needed to support inventory audits, month-end requirements, and inventory accuracy
- Identify recurring inventory issues and recommend process improvements to prevent future discrepancies
Special Handling & Put Away:
- Oversee special handling activities required following receipt, including product identification, labeling, inspection routing, repacking, or other processing as applicable
- Ensure special handling requirements are completed accurately before product is released for put away and made available for use
- Direct put away activities to ensure product is moved to the appropriate warehouse locations safely, accurately, and efficiently
- Ensure put away lift drivers follow established location, material handling, safety, and inventory transaction procedures
- Monitor received inventory awaiting special handling or put away and address aging inventory or other exceptions that delay product availability
- Ensure location transfers and inventory movements are accurately reflected in the ERP/WMS system
- Maintain focus on minimizing the time between physical receipt of product and its availability for operational or customer requirements
Leadership & Team Development:
- Directly supervise put away lift drivers and assign daily work based on inbound volume, priorities, and operational requirements
- Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, training, and performance feedback to assigned employees
- Ensure employees follow standard work, material handling procedures, equipment guidelines, and company safety requirements
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management in accordance with company policy
- Align staffing and work assignments with receiving, special handling, inventory control, and put away priorities
- Promote accountability for accuracy, productivity, safety, inventory integrity, and timely product availability
Safety, Compliance & Quality:
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety policies
- Ensure safe operation of forklifts and other material handling equipment and adherence to warehouse traffic and storage practices
- Coordinate with Quality to ensure applicable inspection requirements are completed for inbound materials
- Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for non-conforming or quarantined inventory
- Ensure compliance with applicable labeling, storage, documentation, and supplier requirements
Continuous Improvement & Performance:
- Identify and implement improvements to the receiving-to-availability workflow, including receiving accuracy, special handling, inventory control, and put away efficiency
- Track and report key performance indicators such as receiving accuracy, inventory accuracy, cycle count results, discrepancy resolution, dock-to-stock/product-availability time, and put away productivity
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and recommend changes that improve the speed and accuracy with which received inventory becomes available for use
- Support development and maintenance of standard work, procedures, and training materials
- Support special projects, process audits, supplier improvement initiatives, and new product introductions as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises Inventory Supervisor, special handling workers and lift drivers for receiving
- Responsible for assigning work, monitoring performance, training, coaching, and ensuring labor is aligned with inbound operational priorities in accordance with company policy

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
- 5–10 years progressive warehouse/distribution experience, preferably, in a unionized environment
- Experience with receiving, inventory control, cycle counting, discrepancy resolution, special handling, and put away operations required
- Prior experience leading, supervising, or mentoring warehouse employees required.
- Experience with Lean concepts
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of receiving operations, inbound workflow, inventory control, special handling, put away, and warehouse location management
- Experience using ERP and/or WMS systems to manage receiving and inventory transactions, transfers, adjustments, and product availability
- Strong understanding of cycle counting, inventory reconciliation, and discrepancy investigation
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to lead employees, establish priorities, set expectations, and drive accountability
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Quality, and Finance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word; ability to use reporting tools and operational KPIs
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced distribution environment
