Job summary

Retro is seeking a dedicated vivarium team member to support in vivo research and clinical development using rodent models. You will perform dose administration, blood collection, and behavioral assays while upholding stringent animal welfare standards.

Responsibilities include assisting with sterile surgical procedures, maintaining vivarium operations, and ensuring compliance with IACUC regulations; candidate should have 2+ years rodent work experience and relevant education.

Qualifications

• BS/AS degree in biology, veterinary science, or related field; or 5+ years industry experience.
• 2+ years of animal husbandry, colony management or rodent work in a research setting.
• Experience with dose administration (IP, SQ, RO, PO, IV), blood collection (RO, Cardiac, SM, tail vein), oral gavage and necropsy in rodent models.
• Experience assisting with and/or performing rodent anesthesia and sterile survival surgical procedures.
• Hands-on experience with behavior phenotyping assays (Y-Maze, Open field, Rotarod, Morris Water Maze).
• Must be able to stand, sit, crouch, and climb; lift up to 50 lbs; weekend/holiday work as needed.

In this role you will support a range of activities enabling our technical in vivo research and clinical development.

About you:

You are curious and driven. You want to be involved in research using rodent models, learn new procedures and techniques, and maintain the highest standards of animal welfare. You enjoy working on a tight knit team but also feel confident working independently as needed.

In this role, you will:

• Perform dose administration (IP, SQ, RO, PO, IV), blood collection (RO, Cardiac, SM, tail vein), oral gavage administration, and necropsy in rodent models.

• Train to assist and/or perform sterile survival surgical procedures (stereotaxic injections etc.).

• Perform behavioral phenotyping assays (Y-maze, open field, rotarod,Morris Water Maze etc.).

• Maintain compliance with IACUC and regulations to assure animal welfare.

• Maintain the vivarium and surrounding space as needed: lab stock, chemical inventory, safety records, reviewing and writing operating procedures and study protocols.

You will thrive in this role if you:

• BS/AS degree in biology, veterinary science, or a related field, or equivalent of 5+ years industry experience.

• 2+ years of animal husbandry, colony management or rodent work in a research setting.

• Experience with dose administration (IP, SQ, RO, PO, IV), blood collection (RO, Cardiac, SM, tail vein), oral gavage administration, and necropsy in rodent models.

• Experience assisting with and/or performing rodent anesthesia and sterile survival surgical procedures.

• Have hands-on experience with behavior phenotyping assays, specifically (Y-Maze, Open field, Rotarod, and water maze).

• Must be able to stand, sit, crouch, and climb frequently for long durations. Must be able to safely lift and maneuver 50 lbs.

• Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed.

It’s a bonus if you:

• Experience assisting with and/or performing stereotaxic injections.

• AALAS certified (AALAT, LAT or LATg) or RVT .

$95,000 - $115,000 a year

The annual salary range for this role is $95,000-115,000. Total compensation also includes generous equity and benefits.
