Job description

Science is an early stage company developing technologies for a range of serious unmet medical needs. We take difficult technical risks, confident that with a clear understanding of the problem and strong modern tools, more progress is possible than might be obvious at first. Regardless of role or team, the two factors we weigh most are evidence of exceptional ability and the addition of positive energy to the group. In an early stage, action‑first environment, the ability to independently orient yourself to the problems that need solving and then follow through is essential.

Science is developing biohybrid brain‑computer interfaces and ambient‑light sensitive optogenetic proteins for vision restoration. We are looking for an in vivo research associate passionate about pushing forward these projects. Candidates can look forward to becoming a key contributor in a talented, driven, and interdisciplinary team. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience performing in vivo mouse work, including dosing, intravitreal injections, mouse behavior, stereotaxic surgery, perfusions and tissue dissection and processing. This is a hands‑on wet lab role, with the expectation that you will spend most of your time directly performing experiments. The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication, organizational and prioritization skills.

Role Responsibilities
  • Perform intravitreal injections to express ambient‑light sensitive opsins in the mouse retina.
  • Perform intracranial injections.
  • Assist with more complex surgeries and workflows.
  • Perform SQ and IM injections with test articles.
  • Run animal behavior experiments to assess visual and motor function.
  • Transcardial perfusions, dissections, and tissue processing.
Key Qualifications
  • Proficiency with intravitreal (IVT) injections.
  • Proficiency with intracranial rodent survival surgeries.
  • Proficiency with rodent behavioral assays.
  • Proficiency with perfusions and post‑hoc dissection and tissue collection.
  • Ability to rigorously follow standard operating procedures, including detailed documentation of your work, to ensure consistent work.
  • Thrives when working collaboratively and is passionate about doing rigorous science.
  • Excellent cross‑functional communication skills.
  • Commitment to helping foster a respectful and supportive work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with retinal and brain histology.
  • Proficiency level with survival rodent surgeries.
  • Experience with molecular techniques like nuclear isolation and PCR.
  • Experience in mammalian cell handling and cryobank retrieval with strong aseptic technique.
