Job summary

Merge Labs in San Francisco is seeking a Scientist - In Vivo Molecular Neurotechnology to join our team developing molecular biosensors and actuators for BCI technologies. You will establish experimental approaches to optimize delivery and functional expression of biomolecules in rodent models, and generate insights to guide next-generation design.

You will collaborate with molecular engineers, data scientists and hardware teams to solve problems, benchmark performance in neuroscience contexts,

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent experience leading research projects end-to-end.
  • Experience benchmarking molecular tools in vivo, including viral delivery and surgical methods.
  • Experience in rodent in vivo neuroscience with imaging/stimulation.
  • Ability to develop and troubleshoot novel techniques in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentoring researchers as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Own and scale in vivo validation pipelines in rodents for molecular biosensors/actuators.
  • Optimize delivery vehicles and parameters for robust, cell-type specific expression.
  • Design and perform in vivo experiments to benchmark functional performance of biosensors/actuators.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to develop and build custom imaging/modulation setups.
  • Assess tolerability and biological effects through functional and molecular assays.
  • Work with engineers and data scientists to define project goals and generate new ideas.
  • Recruit and mentor research associate(s) as needed.
