Job summary

Culmen International LLC is seeking an In Vivo Laboratory Technician II to support the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Experimental Therapeutics Program. This role is onsite in Silver Spring, MD and requires preparing drug formulations, maintaining cryobank records, and performing animal studies under IACUC guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in biological sciences or similar.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience or a graduate level degree in a related field.
  • Prepare or assist with the drafting in vivo study reports, manuscripts, posters and/or proposals.
  • Participate in developing, optimizing, validating, and performing in vivo models in various animal species for various therapeutic areas.
  • Oversee supply and animal procurement and scheduling within the Animal Management System, applicable departmental testing schedules, and assure deliveries are obtained in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the generation of experimental protocols for IACUC submission.
  • Analyze, summarize, and generate figures of experimental data for reports, presentations, posters, and publications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in vivo surge support when there is an increased need for in vivo ready compounds
  • Carry out in vivo studies on IACUC approved protocols to include: anti-microbial infections/inoculations (using multiple routes of administration, such as inter-peritoneal (IP), orally (PO), and intra-muscularly (IM)), treatment, animal husbandry, data collection, and data analysis.
  • Prepare drug formulations to the specifications of the IACUC approved protocols.
  • Establish and maintain searchable database containing salient characteristics of cryopreserved samples including location in the cryobank.
  • Ensure all equipment within the in vivo laboratories are maintained and serviced as required and assist in the preparation of relevant equipment purchase documents.
  • Assist the in vivo Laboratory Manager in the preparation of supplies and animal orders for approval by the Department Chief or COR, as applicable.
  • Assist in maintaining accuracy and integrity of study records and input/upload any records into the appropriate database, as directed by the PI.
  • Be proficient in performing animal manipulations, to include but not limited to injections, drug dosing (multiple routes of administration), compound administration, tissue harvesting, and blood collection, as indicated by PI.
  • Be able to work independently on preparing compound formulations and assist on formulation development.
  • Contribute to proposal, technical reports, and manuscript preparation.
  • Analyze and summarize experimental data for reports and presentations and publications
  • Assist with the preparation of IACUC protocols and amendments as required.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to applicable safety regulations in a BSL 1 and/or 2 laboratory.

What You’ll Do in Your New Role
