Job summary

The Shames Laboratory at Michigan State University seeks an experienced Academic Research Specialist to support an NIH‑funded program on macrophage defense against intracellular bacteria. The role centers on in vivo murine infection models, bone marrow chimera work, and myeloid-specific conditional knockouts.

You will lead experiments, mentor students, and contribute to daily lab operations while pursuing an independent research project within a dynamic team.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. required in microbiology, immunology, cell biology, or closely related field.
• Extensive hands-on experience with in vivo murine models of infection and tissue processing.
• Proficiency in flow cytometry and multiparameter immune-phenotyping.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, and standard molecular biology techniques.

Responsibilities

• Lead in vivo experimental efforts using murine models of bacterial infection and bone marrow chimeras.
• Mice handling, sample collection, tissue processing, and data analysis.
• Mentor and train junior lab personnel and students.
• Contribute to day-to-day lab operations and independent research projects.
