In Patient Coder (Remote) | Health Information & Record Management | Full Time

This position is designated as "remote". However, the new hire will need to come for onboarding and hospital orientation in person.

Responsibilities

The Coder III is responsible for evaluating and assigning the appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS codes, as well as abstracting pertinent clinical information for bill preparation for inpatient, rehabilitation, and some Coder II functions as outlined in the coding policy and procedure manual. The role also involves researching and resolving coding/billing issues, and analyzing the medical record for completeness, consistency, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications
  • Post High School Special Training
  • Credentials or equivalent through AHIMA or AAPC
  • Knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding instructions, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Verifiable training in coding systems, medical and anatomical terminology, clinical theory, and reimbursement principles from college courses, hospital in-service, or seminars
  • Minimum 1 year experience in acute care coding, including Medicare, MS-DRGs, and APR-DRGs
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
