Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to support correctional healthcare infrastructure from the Regional Office in Topeka, KS. This in-office role requires residing near Topeka and involves collaboration with KDOC standards and vendors.

The position emphasizes Windows/Azure administration, SQL management, backups, disaster recovery, and on-site service desk support, with ~20–25% travel to facilities. A bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of IT experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems preferred or minimum 5 years of experience in IT.
• CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ certifications preferred; CCNA preferred.
• Cloud computing experience with Microsoft Azure preferred; 5 years Azure administration experience.
• Willingness to travel to Kansas Correctional Facilities (20-25% of scheduled hours).
• Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).

Responsibilities

• Provide support and maintenance to VitalCore’s technology systems including hardware, software and infrastructure.
• Document IT issues, solutions, processes, and maintain them securely.
• Provide user support through the Service Desk in person, by phone or remotely.
• Collaborate with vendor technical teams to ensure systems are supported and maintained.
• Help train staff on technical issues, software rollouts and information security concerns.
• Assist KS Director of Information Technology with critical projects.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.
• Work on premises or travel to KS correctional facilities; reliable transportation required.

IT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR JOB SUMMARY:

The Systems Administrator/DBA 1 is the highest-level tier technician for the KS Medical Contract for Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC). The Systems Administrator/DBA 1 is responsible for supporting correctional facility Vitalcore infrastructure and information systems across the state of Kansas. This includes all information technology hardware devices, software and infrastructure required to meet both Vitalcore Information Technology and KDOC standards. This position candidate should hold In-depth knowledge of computing operating systems, hardware, advanced cloud-computing administration experience with Microsoft Azure, m365 administration, SharePoint Administration, Azure Virtual Desktop administration, database administration/SQL logic and queries, databased maintenance and support, advanced knowledge of networking including LAN, WAN, and VPN application. This position will be responsible for implementing and maintaining backup solutions, implementing and assisting in disaster recovery for KS systems. Preferably, this position will hold advanced switching knowledge such as configuring, administering, and troubleshooting switches in a mixed environment. This position will assist technical work with vendors to complete technology projects, provide support and maintenance for VitalCore systems. This position should hold excellent communication and interpersonal skills

IT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide support to VitalCore’ s users through the Service Desk ticketing system via in person, phone or remotely.
• Document information technology issues and solutions in the Service Desk.
• Works with vendor’s technical teams to ensure our information systems are supported and maintained.
• Help train staff with technical issues, software rollouts and information security concerns.
• Assist the KS Director of Information Technology with critical projects as assigned.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.
• This position requires job responsibilities to be performed on-premises or with approved travel to Kansas Correctional Facilities. Reliable transportation is required.

IT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems is preferred or minimum 5 years of experience working in Information Technology.
• CompTIA A+ Certification. CompTIA Network+ and Security+ Certification preferred. CCNA Certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) preferred.
• Automation and scripting experienced preferred.
• Cloud computing experience preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience with Microsoft Azure administration.
• Travel is required to Kansas Correctional Facilities (approximately 20-25% of scheduled hours).
• Correctional healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience with SQL Querying and SQL Database maintenance preferred.
• Must be fluent in English language, including reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.
• Must be a supportive team member, who contributes to and demonstrates teamwork and team concept.
• Able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Able to deal tactfully with personnel, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
