Job summary

Port Houston is seeking a Paralegal to provide legal and administrative support to the Legal Department. The role involves research, contract and document preparation, contract management, real estate, and general transactional matters to support port operations.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of paralegal experience, preferably in a public sector or port authority setting, with strong research, writing, and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Public sector legal operations knowledge preferred.
  • Experience supporting a in-house legal department is ideal.
  • Strong research and drafting abilities for contracts and memos.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters with deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and organize legal documents under attorney supervision.
  • Research legal, governmental and business matters and prepare memoranda.
  • Maintain familiarity with relevant legislation and regulatory matters.
  • Assist with transactions, litigation and administrative matters.
  • Prepare materials for Port Commission meetings and board items.
  • Track deadlines and coordinate filings for litigation and admin proceedings.
  • Develop and maintain the Legal Department’s document system and contract repository.
  • Support public records requests under the Texas Public Information Act.
  • Assist with outside counsel relations and billing, as needed.
  • Review and route contracts with Port Houston departments.
