Job summary

Melitta North America in Clearwater, FL is seeking an In-House Equipment Technician to prepare, modify, program, test, troubleshoot, and repair commercial coffee equipment. This role supports the Technical Support Team and Field Service Technicians to ensure equipment is ready for customers, demonstrations, trade shows, evaluations, and field testing.

The candidate will diagnose technical issues, repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, maintain records, and manage lab inventory.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Field Service Technician or in a similar mechanical, electrical, or electronic position.
  • Completion of a two-year technical or trade school program or equivalent training.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and perform occasional team lifts.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.

Responsibilities

  • Test and program new equipment.
  • Prepare equipment for new customers, demonstrations, trade shows, evaluations, and field testing.
  • Modify equipment based on customer, operational, or demonstration requirements.
  • Accurately diagnose technical problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
  • Evaluate and repair returned equipment.
  • Identify defective parts and report findings to the department manager.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
  • Enter technical information into internal network drives and update equipment status.
  • Maintain parts stock and laboratory inventory.
  • Keep the equipment lab clean, safe, and orderly.
  • Assist warehouse personnel with identifying parts for Field Service Technicians.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Technical Support Team and Field Service Technicians.
  • Evaluate taste, quality, and appearance of finished beverages (lattes, cappuccinos, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain understanding of how equipment components interact.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately diagnose technical problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.

  • Maintain accurate service records, performance reports, and documentation of work performed.
  • Enter technical information into internal network drives and update the status of equipment ready for sale.
  • Maintain parts stock and control laboratory inventory.
  • Keep the equipment laboratory, tools, parts, and equipment clean, safe, and orderly.
  • Assist warehouse personnel with identifying parts for Field Service Technicians.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Technical Support Team and Field Service Technicians.
  • Evaluate the taste, quality, and appearance of finished beverages, including lattes, cappuccinos, and other coffee-based products.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of how equipment components and systems work together.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required by management.

  • Coffee industry experience is preferred but not required.
Education And Experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Field Service Technician or in a similar mechanical, electrical, or electronic technical position.
  • Completion of a two-year technical or trade school program, apprenticeship program, or an equivalent combination of education and on-the-job training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in team lifting of equipment weighing up to 140 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, climb, bend, crouch, and work in elevated areas when necessary.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to perform equipment and component inspections.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to identify equipment and component irregularities during troubleshooting.
