Job summary

Cherry Bekaert seeks an Assistant General Counsel to join our in-house team in Indianapolis. You will manage subpoenas, document reviews, and litigation, while advising on a broad range of legal matters and partnering with business leaders to mitigate risk.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in litigation and/or in-house practice, a JD from an accredited law school, and an active license. Data privacy, government contracting, and labor/employment experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience managing litigation, agency charges, investigations, and dispute resolution.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law, in good standing, in the state of employment, or eligibility for waiver or in-house counsel registration.
• Prior in-house counsel experience and/or law firm practice required
• Prior data privacy experience preferred
• Prior government contracting experience preferred
• Prior experience practicing labor and employment law preferred

Responsibilities

• Handle all stages of responses to subpoenas, summonses and third-party information requests, including objections, scope negotiation and production.
• Manage document collections, reviews, and legal hold processes.
• Manage litigation and administrative proceedings brought against the Firm.
• Draft state-specific settlement and confidentiality agreements.
• Direct and oversee outside counsel, including litigation strategy, budgeting, case management, and settlement negotiation.
• Represent the Firm in client disputes.
• Draft, review, and negotiate client and vendor agreements to protect company interests.
• Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance on a broad range of legal matters, including employee relations, performance management, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, restrictive covenants, and workforce reductions.
• Advise People & Culture, Risk Management, and business leaders on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to address legal risks and support strategic business initiatives.
