Job summary

HII — America’s largest shipbuilder — offers a 2027 Legal Summer Intern program in Arlington, VA. This 10-week corporate internship gives exposure to business, finance, IT, and legal/government affairs while supporting leaders shaping the future of HII.

As a Legal summer intern you will attend staff meetings, review teamings and NDAs, draft letters, perform legal research, and interact with business units and outside counsel.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a Juris Doctorate program at an accredited law school.
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (Official transcripts will be required).
• Be continuing in a Juris Doctorate program in the fall following the internship.
• Work a 40-hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer.
• A valid email address is required when applying, receiving communication, and obtaining employment offers.

Responsibilities

• Attend law department staff meetings.
• Review Teaming Agreements and Nondisclosure Agreements.
• Draft letters or other documents as necessary.
• Legal research and prepare memoranda.
• Attend meetings with the business units.
• Attend meetings with outside counsel.
• Perform additional assignments as requested.
• Upon conclusion of the internship, the Summer Intern should have a general understanding of the duties of an in-house counsel at a publicly traded company.
