Abacus is exclusively recruiting a highly skilled Compliance (In-House) Counsel to join the global legal team, providing strategic and practical support for operations across EMEA and APAC regions. This high-impact legal role offers exposure to global compliance matters in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Focus:

  • Provide strategic legal and compliance advice to business operations across EMEA & APAC on topics including anti-corruption, antitrust, financial crimes, conflicts of interest, and other relevant regulations. This may involve vetting transactional deals, assessing new suppliers or third parties, flagging and mitigating risks, and applying approval or stop actions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to management and employees, guiding ethical decision-making and compliance obligations. Implement compliance initiatives tailored to stakeholders.
  • Participate in regional and global legal projects, such as corporate and commercial matters, and policy development.
  • Occasionally conduct internal investigations into policy or legal violations, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance with best practices.
  • Design and deliver engaging training programs suited to regional needs.
  • Lead regional compliance risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and stay updated on regional compliance developments.
  • Develop and implement region-specific compliance policies aligned with global standards and local laws.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support global ethics and compliance initiatives.

Requirements:

  • At least 5+ years’ PQE, gained in-house or in private practice.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, antitrust, and financial crime regulations.
  • Proven experience conducting internal investigations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, relationship-building, and communication skills, with the ability to deal with senior-level stakeholders.

It’s an advantage if you offer:

  • Prior in-house ethics and compliance experience, including bribery and corruption.
  • Familiarity with data privacy laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations.
  • A strategic mindset capable of driving vision, managing ambiguity, and influencing stakeholders.

Rewards and Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary supplemented by bonuses and stock options.
  • Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision), life insurance, generous holiday entitlement, pension, legal assistance, wellness programs, tuition reimbursement, and discounts.
  • This is a fully remote role aligned with UK operational hours, with low travel requirements. Attendance at the office is voluntary.
