Job summary

Empower U is an in-home mental health organization in New Jersey seeking a Personal Care Assistant to support children and young adults with developmental disabilities in home settings. You will engage them in community activities, assist with daily living, and maintain a safe, supportive environment.

The role offers flexible scheduling (evenings, weekends, and after-school) with competitive pay and paid training. Growth opportunities exist within Empower U across New Jersey.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience as a Personal Care Assistant.
• At least 6 months’ experience with children with developmental disabilities.
• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within 10–15 miles.
• Smartphone to access HHAX applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to youth with developmental needs.
• Engage youth in community outings, recreational activities, and social skills.
• Support daily living activities and maintain a safe environment.
• Offer peer support, role modeling, and encouragement.
• Apply problem-solving, de-escalation, and critical thinking as needed.
• Communicate with families, team members, and supervisors.
• Attend trainings, meetings, and supervision sessions.
• Complete documentation and adhere to agency policies.

Skills

2-3 years experience as Personal Care 

CPR certification
