Job summary

Empower U. in New Jersey is seeking a dedicated Personal Care Assistant to support children and young adults with developmental disabilities in home settings. This role emphasizes compassionate, patient care, daily living assistance, and engaging activities to promote independence.

The position offers flexible scheduling (after-school, evenings, weekends), a pay range of $19.00–$22.00 per hour, and opportunities for training and career growth within Empower U.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2–3 years’ experience as a Personal Care Assistant is preferred.
• At least 6 months’ experience with children with developmental disabilities.
• CPR certification is required.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within a 10–15 mile radius.
• Smartphone to access agency HHAX applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to youth with developmental needs.
• Engage youth in community outings and social skill development.
• Support daily living activities and maintain a safe, supportive environment.
• Offer peer support and positive role modeling.
• Apply problem-solving, de-escalation, and critical thinking as needed.
• Communicate effectively with families, team members, and supervisors.
• Attend trainings, team meetings, and supervision sessions.
• Complete documentation and adhere to agency policies.
