Job summary

Brooklyn Defender Services is seeking an Arraignment Paralegal to join the Criminal Defense Practice in the Brooklyn office. This full-time role supports arraignment court proceedings and helps attorneys prepare cases for interviews with clients from arrest through initial court appearance.

Qualifications

Must be very organized and able to work in a fast-paced in-court environment.
Able to assist people during arraignment and their families during stressful times.
Strong multitasking, prioritization, and timely task completion.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Comfortable learning case management and document management software.

Responsibilities

Be based in court during arraignment shifts and assist attorneys interviewing clients.
Keep cases updated in the case management system and prepare them for attorneys.
Collect paperwork, organize files, and enter data into the case-management system.
Provide carfare and meal stipends for certain shifts.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
