An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening programme as an Improving Uptake Officer. This is a full/part-time/flexible, fixed-term position for 9 months to cover maternity leave starting March/April 2025.
Cancer screening programmes are vital in protecting public health. The current breast screening uptake in Lancashire is below the national average and declining. This role aims to target patients in lower-uptake practices to increase screening participation, potentially leading to:
GP endorsement has been shown to increase uptake. The officer will work collaboratively with GPs and primary care staff to emphasize the importance of screening and endorsement.
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community healthcare premises across Morecambe Bay.
FGH and RLI offer comprehensive hospital services, including Emergency Departments and critical care. WGH provides general hospital services with an Urgent Treatment Centre for minor conditions. All sites deliver outpatient, diagnostic, therapy, day case, and inpatient services, along with community outreach programs.
