Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening programme as an Improving Uptake Officer. This is a full/part-time/flexible, fixed-term position for 9 months to cover maternity leave starting March/April 2025.

Cancer screening programmes are vital in protecting public health. The current breast screening uptake in Lancashire is below the national average and declining. This role aims to target patients in lower-uptake practices to increase screening participation, potentially leading to:

  • Effective treatment packages
  • Saving lives

GP endorsement has been shown to increase uptake. The officer will work collaboratively with GPs and primary care staff to emphasize the importance of screening and endorsement.

Main duties
  • Visit GP practices and liaise with healthcare professionals to organize promotional events targeting hard-to-reach women.
  • Educate women on breast awareness and screening, providing relevant information.
  • Support GP practices in targeting non-attenders.
  • Implement and evaluate communication plans, including text reminders.
  • Provide feedback reports and recommendations to commissioners.
  • Develop sustainability and project plans with milestones.
  • Prepare interim and end-of-year reports with evaluations and service improvement recommendations.
