Job summary

Indiana Donor Network is seeking an Import & Logistics Coordinator to manage organ offers and the related import logistics for local transplant centers. This role handles TxJet flight requests and internal/external coordination with transplant teams.

The position requires extensive knowledge of transplant processes and the ability to communicate with surgeons, nurses, and OPO staff while handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Night shift includes weekends.

Qualifications

  • Prerequisites include advanced degree in Transplantation & Donation Science; or professional RN/Paramedic/Respiratory Therapist.
  • CPTC with ABTC certification or equivalent OPO clinical experience.
  • High school diploma with equivalent OPO experience accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Manage import offers for organs for local transplant centers.
  • Coordinate TxJet flight requests and related logistics.
  • Respond to offers per OPTN guidelines and screen against decline criteria.
  • Communicate physician requests to host OPOs and transplant teams.
  • Arrange flight and ground transportation for organs and staff.
  • Coordinate timelines with transplant coordinators and physicians.

About the Role

The Import & Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing all organ offers to local transplant centers, and the logistics associated with the import process. In addition, the Import & Logistics Coordinator is responsible for all internal and external TxJet flight requests. This is a night shift position, working 8 am to 8 pm including two weekends per month. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing import offers for heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, intestine and kidneys for local transplant centers
  • Responding to offers within the OPTN guidelines
  • Screening organ offers against established decline criteria
  • Clearly presenting primary offers to local transplant centers
  • Effectively communicating physician’s requests to host Organ Procurement
    Organizations (OPOs)
  • Coordinating flight and ground transportation for import organs, INDN staff and
    transplant staff
  • Arranging flyouts for organs, effectively coordinating appropriate timelines with transplant coordinators and transplant physicians involved
  • Providing services to both internal and external customers in relation to TxJet requests

This is a day shift position working a 12-hour schedule from 8:00 to 8:00. The days of the week rotate and require every other weekend, with three shifts one week and four shifts the next.

Who We’re Looking For

Candidate must meet one of the following minimum prerequisites:

  • Completion of an advanced degree in Transplantation & Donation Science
  • Registered Nurse
  • Certified Paramedic
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) with current ABTC certification
  • An equivalent amount of OPO experience in a clinical setting and a High School

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities include:

  • General understanding of disease processes and how they affect organ function
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Ability to interpret lab values, chest x-rays and CT results to recognize abnormalities and to appropriately treat abnormal values
  • Ability to read and follow checklists, procedures and provide direction to other staff
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with nurses, physicians,
    hospital/transplant professionals, and Indiana Donor Network employees
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skill in charting, including ability to accurately enter data into an online system
