Job summary

thyssenkrupp rothe erde in Ohio seeks an Import/Export Compliance Manager to develop and administer our global compliance program. You will serve as the SME for import/export, guiding licensing, product classification, and recordkeeping to meet EAR, ECRA, CBP, OFAC, and other trade laws.

You’ll collaborate with Legal and regional teams, train staff, and ensure cross-functional integration of trade compliance into business processes worldwide.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, international trade or logistics.
  • Licensed Customs Broker or equivalent trade compliance certification preferred.
  • Five years of import/export or global trade compliance experience, preferably in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all import/export compliance matters.
  • Develop and maintain trade compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Manage licensing activities, classifications, and export records.
  • Classify products under HTS, determine origin, and ensure USMCA and trade rule compliance.
  • Coordinate documentation and liaise with brokers, freight forwarders, and authorities.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess business impact.
  • Conduct denied party and sanctions screening using approved systems.
  • Maintain comprehensive import/export records and audit trails.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and regional leadership on strategies.
  • Deliver trade compliance training and guidance to staff.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Import/Export Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering the Company's global import and export compliance program.

DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES
  • Serve as the Company's primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all import, export, customs, and trade compliance matters.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve trade compliance policies, procedures, internal controls, and work instructions to ensure compliance with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Export Control Reform Act (ECRA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, OFAC sanctions, and other applicable U.S. and international trade laws.
  • Analyze domestic and international business transactions to determine applicable import and export requirements, verify regulatory compliance, and ensure transactions satisfy corporate policies prior to shipment.
  • Manage export licensing activities, including determining Export Control Classification Numbers, preparing and submitting license applications to the Bureau of Industry and Security, evaluating license exceptions, and maintaining all required export authorization records.
  • Classify imported products under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, determine country of origin, conduct origin analyses for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement and other applicable free trade agreements, and ensure compliance with customs valuation, marking, and preferential trade program requirements.
  • Coordinate and review all import and export documentation, including commercial invoices, certificates of origin, USMCA certifications, Shipper's Letters of Instruction, Electronic Export Information, End-Use/End-User Certificates, Delivery Verification Certificates, and other documentation required to support compliant international shipments.
  • Partner with customs brokers, freight forwarders, government agencies, and third-party logistics providers to facilitate compliant import and export transactions, resolve customs issues and holds, and minimize shipment delays.
  • Monitor changes to international trade regulations, tariff schedules, sanctions programs, customs requirements, and trade remedies; evaluate business impact.
  • Review customer purchase orders, contracts, technical data, shipping documentation, and government requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct denied party and sanctions screening of customers, vendors, visitors, and other business partners using approved screening systems.
  • Maintain complete and accurate import and export compliance records, including classification determinations, Commodity Jurisdiction requests, export licenses, license exceptions, customs filings, audit logs, and transaction documentation.
  • Perform internal compliance reviews and post-entry customs audits, coordinate Post Summary Corrections, prior disclosures, and corrective actions with customs brokers.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Corporate Compliance, Regional Headquarters, and business leadership to develop trade compliance strategies, support corporate initiatives, and ensure consistent application of global compliance policies.
  • Work cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, IT, Customer Service, and Supply Chain to integrate trade compliance requirements into business processes, resolve operational issues, and support international business growth.
  • Develop, deliver, and document trade compliance training to employees and provide ongoing guidance regarding customs and export control requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, International Trade, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Customs Specialist, or other trade compliance certification preferred.
  • Five years of import/export, customs, or global trade compliance experience, preferably in manufacturing.
EXPORT CONTROL

This position requires access to export-controlled technical data or technology. Employment is contingent upon thyssenkrupp's ability to obtain any required export authorization from the appropriate government agency or agencies.
