Job description

Job Summary

The Import/Export Analyst III is a senior professional role responsible for independently managing moderately complex import and export activities and applying in‑depth knowledge of trade compliance regulations to ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient global trade operations. This role exercises judgment and analytical skills to resolve non‑routine issues, support audits, and contribute to process improvements. The Import/Export Analyst III has a direct impact on compliance posture, cost control, and supply chain continuity and provides guidance to less experienced analysts.

Responsibilities
1. Logistics Operations & International Traffic

Multimodal Logistics: Coordinate global ocean, air, and ground routing with freight forwarders. Drive logistics optimization metrics (OTD, % saturation) and ensure full documentation compliance for customs clearance & post audits.

  • Customs Broker Management: Oversee and audit the performance of Customs Brokers in the US/Canada and Agentes Aduanales in Mexico, validating Pedimentos, Customs Entries, and B3 Forms. (Scope can be adjusted inside North America)
  • Logistics & Customs Analytics: Generate comprehensive metrics regarding the volume and USD values of logistics and customs operations, customs ports utilized, and active operational seaports, airports, and border crossings.
  • Global Quality Assurance: Verify that international shippers comply with destination country entry regulations by reviewing shipping documents and pre‑clearance requirements alongside Customs Brokers to prevent non‑compliance with local and international trade laws.
  • ISF Compliance: Ensure shippers submit the Importer Security Filing (ISF) within mandatory deadlines to mitigate risk and prevent late‑filing penalties (minimum $5,000 USD per late entry).
  • Logistics suppliers management: Monitor supplier compliance with contracts, SLAs, and performance metrics. Guarantee timely payment processing for Nidec’s logistics services.
2. Regulatory Compliance & Legal Protection
  • Customs Agency Management:
    • United States: Oversee and audit electronic transmissions to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), ensuring full compliance with partner government agencies such as the FDA, EPA, and DOT based on product type.
    • Canada: Monitor and audit operations with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), ensuring seamless compliance under the mandatory CARM (CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management) system.
    • Mexico: Guarantee regulatory compliance with the SAT, ANAM, and General Rules of Foreign Trade (Reglas Generales de Comercio Exterior), maintaining strict control over mandatory NOMs (Mexican Official Standards) for certification and labeling.
  • Security Programs: Collaborate in the management, maintenance, and auditing of international supply chain security certifications, including C‑TPAT (US), OEA (Mexico), and PIP (Canada).
  • Record Keeping & Audit Trails: Design, implement, and audit internal foreign trade document retention policies; mitigate financial risks by establishing a bulletproof audit trail for tax and customs authorities.
3. Reverse Logistics, Returns, and Re‑exports
  • RMA Management (Return Merchandise Authorization): Design and guarantee the correct logistics infrastructure for returning defective or surplus merchandise to suppliers, unrelated entities, or intercompany facilities across Asia, Europe, America, other countries.
  • Re‑exportation Strategy: Design and secure appropriate customs regimes to execute merchandise returns without duplicating tax payments, leveraging Temporary Export schemes in Mexico, Duty Drawback in the US, and the Duties Relief Program in Canada.
  • In-Transit Inventory Control: Monitor the physical and legal status of containers or pallets moving through reverse logistics channels to prevent cargo from becoming stranded at departure ports.
4. Tariff Classification & Trade Agreements
  • HTS/Tariff Classification: Ensure all new SKUs generated by technical areas receive an assigned HTS code; audit classification databases for global imports, exports, and returns to eliminate misclassification penalties.
  • USMCA / T‑MEC Strategy: Audit Customs Brokers to ensure the flawless application of USMCA Certificates of Origin for merchandise flowing within the North American region following initial import.
  • International Trade Agreements: Leverage alternative free trade agreements established by the US, Mexico, or Canada with Europe (EU‑Mexico FTA), the Asia‑Pacific region (CPTPP), America and other countries to minimize origin‑based tariff costs.
5. Discrepancy Management & Quality Issues
  • Discrepancy Reporting: Administratively manage variances identified between original Packing Lists and physical cargo received (shortages, overages, or damaged goods).
  • Customs Rectification & Amending: Ensure Import/Export Analysts initiate Rectificación de Pedimentos (Mexico), Post‑Summary Corrections (US), or Customs Amendments (Canada) when quantity or value discrepancies arise, mitigating technical smuggling risks.
  • Quarantine & Inspection: Coordinate with warehouses and the Quality Assurance team to isolate materials with quality issues; ensure foreign supplier inspections at local plants comply with all applicable labor and safety regulations.
6. Project Management
  • Business Case Consultation: Provide expert insight, voice, and vote on corporate project business cases involving new import/export flows, ensuring tariff and non‑tariff regulations are integrated into early project compliance planning.
  • Special Project Execution: Participate in high‑level decision‑making, design, and execution of specialized import/export operations, including specialized equipment, heavy machinery, or sensitive commodities.
  • PMO Leadership: Lead as Project Manager Officer (PMO) in the multi‑country implementation of a Global Trade Management (GTM) system across Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Candidate Profile & Key Competencies
  • Detail‑Oriented & Compliance‑Driven: Possess a meticulous eye for detail alongside an unyielding commitment to legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Strategic Agility: Proven ability to balance strict trade compliance requirements with the operational speed and agility needed to maintain Nidec ACIM’s supply chain and logistical continuity.
  • Cultural Intelligence (CQ) & Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills coupled with high cultural intelligence, enabling effective collaboration across global, multicultural teams while eliminating cultural barriers.
  • Mobility: Full availability and willingness to travel as required by business operations.
  • Systems: Processes will be supported by Oracle, SAP, AX, Filmmaker, CASS, Easy Cargo, Marine traffic, others.
