Job summary

Leidos is seeking an Implementations/Activations Network Engineer to be based in Scott AFB, IL. This position involves the installation oversight, configuration, testing, and servicing of network equipment, ensuring compliance with DISA standards while activating networks that support DoD.

Qualified candidates will need a BS degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or a Master's with less than 2 years. An active Secret clearance and DoD-8570 IAT Level 2 certification are mandatory.

Job description

Our customer, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), provides, operates, and assures command and control of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) services to its customers, the Department of Defense (DoD) and national security organizations. The Leidos Digital Modernization Sector/Global Solutions Management-Operations II (GSMO-II) contract has an opening for a Implementations/Activations Network Engineer at Scott AFB, IL. This role involves installation oversight, configuration, testing, monitoring, and servicing of network equipment and activation of networks supporting DoD networks.

This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform customer coordination, Initial Test and Acceptance (IT&A), execution of all reporting functions, and complete data input associated with new service activations to ensure they are implemented in accordance with DISA standards.
  • Work directly with customers, solution architects and vendor SMEs to implement changes and identify, analyze, and resolve issues.
  • Manage Service Orders in accordance with Change Management procedures.
  • Ensure Telecommunication Service Orders (TSOs) are in place and accurate for scheduled network additions and changes.
  • Initiate network device configurations using configlets.
  • Analyze DISN and databases to validate and implement customer requirements.
  • Design and implement solutions to highly technical problems through testing, documentation and modification of configurations on network devices.
  • Coordinate and program customer circuit activation with commercial vendors to establish the engineered solution for end‑to‑end connectivity.
  • Perform network monitoring to assess if deployed changes have caused impacts to customer traffic using provided expectations of traffic behavior, lessons learned, and customer reporting.
  • Utilize systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional requirements in support of customer resources.
  • Engage with DISA project managers and/or customers to resolve issues with incomplete or unclear requirements.
  • Reach out to stakeholders and facilitate approvals as necessary to ensure continual forward progress of the service request.
Basic Qualifications
  • Proficient knowledge of network hardware specifications, configuration and testing processes, and industry specifications.
  • Knowledge of configuring, activating, testing, and analyzing network systems.
  • Network engineering, problem management, and performance management experience.
  • Understanding of basic telecommunications and information technology terms and technology.
  • Knowledge of data and voice network design covering various transmission systems, router‑to‑router connections using military and commercial protocols such as BGP and ISIS, switch‑to‑switch trunking including VLANs, and circuit configurations through multiplexers.
  • Experience with network services (BGP, OSPF, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, WAN, VPN, VLAN, VRF, etc.) and network appliances (routers, load balancers, domain name servers, firewalls).
  • Ability to work in a team environment, but self‑driven to complete assignments while continually developing proficiencies in processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, team building and collaboration skills.
  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • DoD‑8570 IAT Level 2 baseline certification (Security+ CE or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience at DISA, or knowledge of DISA systems and processes.
  • Prior experience with SharePoint data entry.
  • Experience performing customer outreach.
  • Experience with DISA Request Fulfillment process and associate documents (TSRs, TSOs, completion reports) and circulars experience.
  • Basic understanding of Department of Defense policies and hierarchy.
  • Basic understanding of DISA organizational structure.
  • Network certifications: Cisco Certifications (CCNA, CCNP, etc.), Microsoft certifications (MCSE, etc.), security certifications (Security+ CE, CISSP, etc.), ITIL certification.
Required Education and Experience

Requires a BS degree and 2-4 years of prior relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience).
