Job summary

The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) Hampden County Conflict Advocacy Office seeks Trial Attorneys to represent adult clients in the District and Superior Courts across Hampden County. The new office, located in Springfield, will provide zealous representation to indigent clients and will require Massachusetts eligibility and a commitment to diverse, defense-focused practice.

Training and mentorship are available as part of CPCS career development.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated commitment to zealous advocacy for indigent criminal clients.
• Strong interpersonal and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently and with a defense-oriented team.

Responsibilities

• Interviewing clients to assess case and needs.
• Arraignment and bail advocacy on criminal matters.
• Legal research and writing for pretrial motions.
• Investigation of crimescenes and witnesses; gather evidence.
• Prepare and argue pretrial motions and memoranda.
• Dispositional investigations and advocacy as needed.
• Participate in trials in District and Superior Courts.
• Collaborate with CPCS staff and private counsel when appropriate.
