Job summary

Burke County Public Schools is seeking a Substitute School Bus Driver to transport students safely to and from school daily, while enforcing bus procedures and maintaining discipline on board. The candidate must hold a valid Georgia CDL with P and S endorsements and meet all qualification criteria.

The role requires English proficiency, good moral character, and a minimum of two years driving experience. Substitute drivers are paid per day and do not receive the full-time benefits package.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older.
• Valid Georgia CDL with P and S endorsements.
• Physical examination within 60 days before employment.
• No DUIs in last 7 years and ≤6 points in last 5 years.
• Pass pre-employment drug screen and random testing.
• Must be able to speak, read and write English.

Responsibilities

• Transport students to and from school daily, ensuring safety.
• Supervise student behavior and enforce transport policies.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform basic servicing per guidelines.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document findings.
• Communicate with dispatchers and school officials as needed.
• Provide safety and emergency training to students and plan for emergencies.
