Job summary

Waltham Public Schools is seeking a collaborative Special Education Teacher at John F. Kennedy Middle School to provide high-quality, individualized instruction to students with disabilities.

The current opening is anticipated within the Connections Program, emphasizing meaningful access, independence, and active participation. The teacher will lead IEP-related activities, collaborate with families and staff, and adapt instruction to diverse needs in a supportive school community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Massachusetts DESE licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities or Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities.
• Knowledge of special education processes, IEP development, progress monitoring, and specially designed instruction.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and supports to meet a range of student needs.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to high expectations, belonging, and meaningful educational opportunities for students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design differentiated, engaging instruction aligned with IEPs, state frameworks, and student profiles.
• Differentiate materials, supports, and environments to ensure meaningful access.
• Provide specially designed instruction addressing academic, communication, social-emotional, behavioral, and adaptive needs.
• Serve as IEP liaison and monitor progress toward goals and required reports.
• Collaborate with families, general and special educators, related service providers, and administrators.
