Qualifications

• Arizona Special Education Cross Categorical Teacher certification, or AZ Special Education Teacher certification with ID/MR or ED
• Master Degree in Special Education (preferred)
• Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, practices, materials, equipment, and compliance standards
• Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, and evaluate outcomes
• Coordinate activities with related and specialist staff
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents and community; excellent human relations; strong written and verbal communication
• May be required to use physical restraint as needed
• Maintain current NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and IEP software

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction based on student IEPs and state standards
• Confer with regular classroom teachers about student needs and progress
• Maintain accurate records for documentation and compliance
• Participate in MET process and professional development
• Communicate with parents about pupil progress and program
• Create engaging environments with displays and learning centers
• Support teachers with interventions and accommodations
• Direct activities and provide evaluation input for instructional assistants
