Job summary

South Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative seeks a dedicated Middle/High School Special Education Teacher to plan, deliver, and evaluate individualized services for students in self-contained and integrated settings. The role involves collaboration with general educators, specialists, parents, and paraeducators to support educational objectives and inclusive learning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in the appropriate field.
  • Kansas teaching license with appropriate Special Education endorsements, licensure, or waiver eligibility.
  • Previous experience in diagnosing and assessing learning disorders preferred.
  • Previous experience in educating special needs students preferred.
  • Proven effective classroom and student behavior management skills.
  • Knowledge of current special education practices and methodologies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of State, local and federal regulations affecting special education.
  • Working knowledge of educational technology applications.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the needs of assigned students through formal and informal assessments.
  • Review referral data, history and assessment data to develop goals and objectives for each student.
  • Confer with general education teachers regarding educational, social, emotional and physical needs of each student.
  • Plan, develop and implement individualized learning plans for each student and design teaching strategies.
  • Prepare instructional materials and lesson plans according to IEPs.
  • Review IEPs with parents, school administrators and educators.
  • Utilize methods of instruction to meet needs in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
  • Monitor and document each student’s progress using appropriate measurements and assessment devices.
  • Prepare progress reports for each student.
  • Develop interventions and strategies to promote achievement of objectives.
  • Collaborate with general school personnel on IEP implementation.
  • Modify and adapt curricula to meet special needs.
  • Maintain communication with parents via email, calls, conferences and reports.
  • Ensure adherence to classroom discipline and a secure learning environment.
  • Manage student behavior and implement Behavioral Intervention Plans where needed.
  • Prepare students for inclusion and transition to mainstream.
