Job summary

Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District in Waverly, Iowa is seeking a Long Term Sub - Special Education Paraeducator at the Little Go-Hawk Learning Center. The role supports students with special needs under certified staff supervision, August to October, with hourly pay and non-exempt status.

Responsibilities include assisting teachers, preparing materials, monitoring IEPs, behavior management, supervision, and safety. Valid para-educator cert preferred; HS diploma required; 18+ years old.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must be 18 years of age
• Experience working with school age children in the education setting preferred.
• Knowledge or the ability to be trained to meet the responsibilities of the job.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with educational activities and prepare instructional materials.
• Organize and utilize reference and source materials.
• Assist in implementing and monitoring students' Individual Education Plans.
• Assist in implementing consistent behavior management strategies and procedures.
• Supervise students in lunchroom, recess, classrooms, halls, and bus areas.
• Make quick, responsible decisions regarding student welfare and safety.
• Assist students with work completion.
• Complete Medicaid documentation as required.
• Report incidents to teachers and principal.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Provide personal care duties for students with disabilities.
• Feed, toilet and diaper students as needed.
• Attend in-service training and school meetings as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.
