Job summary

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant works under the supervision of licensed speech language pathologists in the Anchorage School District. The role includes developing treatment plans, executing routine therapy activities, directing groups of students, and documenting progress.

This position is tied to PERS retirement and offers full-time hours. Requirements include an associate's degree with a speech-language emphasis or a bachelor's in speech-language pathology, plus fieldwork and a valid

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in disabilities with a speech-language support emphasis or a bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology, both including fieldwork experience.
  • Valid Alaska and/or national speech language pathology assistant license.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in reviewing students' functional abilities and need for therapy.
  • Assists in the development of IEPs and participates in meetings with parents at the direction of the supervising therapist.
  • Implements therapy programs within a school environment to meet IEP goals/objectives under the direction of the supervising therapist.
  • Teaches parents, teachers, classroom assistants, and other appropriate personnel to implement programs prescribed by the therapist.
  • Collects and records data on therapy programs.
  • Monitors therapy programs using observational data and/or pre-post testing.
  • Manages student behavior during therapy.
  • Develops and adheres to a daily schedule that may include travel to various school sites.
  • Monitors and reports student progress.
  • Modifies and constructs adaptive equipment for student or classroom use.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on department committees.
  • Completes required reports and other forms promptly and accurately.
  • Develops professional growth goals with the supervisor of Related Services Programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of treatment modalities and techniques used with children and adolescents.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Anchorage School District staff and community agencies.
