Job summary

Ashland School District 5 is seeking an Attendance Youth Advocate to serve as a liaison among schools, parents, community agencies, police, and the court to address student attendance issues. The role includes campus monitoring and supporting administration to maintain a safe, orderly environment.

This probationary, full-time position operates under administrative supervision with a 1.0 FTE/8 hours per day schedule, offering a non-exempt wage range of $20.10–$24.54 per hour.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and collaborative skills.
• Understanding of youth services and community agencies.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within district requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supports safe school environments for students, staff, and families.
• Be visible around district campuses for monitoring and intervention of attendance needs.
• Make home visits to discuss attendance issues with parents or guardians and students.
• Provide referral-driven and strengths-based intervention services to children and families where irregular attendance is an issue.
• Based on Oregon Attendance Laws, use necessary interventions in relation to referred students where truancy is an issue.
• Provide early intervention services with referred students who are beginning to demonstrate irregular attendance.
• Research resource materials and best practices for school staff on effective policies, procedures and programs in relation to encouraging regular attendance of all students.
• Participate in school/community collaborative efforts to improve services and support to students with attendance problems.
• Issue citations, prepare factual court reports and attend school conferences and court hearings as requested.
• Provide pro-active service to students and families to deal with chronic school attendance.
• Serve as a liaison between school, parents, community agencies, police authorities and the court on individual cases that reach community level interventions.
• Collaborate and communicate with administration on campus attendance issues.
• Assist students to get to class promptly; patrols campus and monitors and assists with student conduct in halls and other areas of district schools.
