Job summary

Ashland School District in Ashland, Oregon seeks a Youth Advocate- Attendance to support student attendance and campus safety within the Student Services department. You will liaise with schools, families, community agencies, police, and the court on attendance issues and truancy, while helping maintain a safe, orderly campus.

The role requires a high school diploma, knowledge of Oregon attendance laws, and experience with youth services; it is a 1.0 FTE, 8-hour day, non-exempt position with

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of policies and practices of agencies serving youth including school, police, juvenile court, C.D.S., CPS, etc.
• Experience with youth and demonstrated ability to supervise youth.
• Experience in education, juvenile justice, correctional, security, social service and/or related fields preferred.
• Effective communication, collaboration, relational, and problem-solving skills.
• Thorough understanding of Oregon attendance laws and best practices.
• Certificates/licenses: CPR/First Aid and Oregon driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Supports safe school environments for students, staff, and families.
• Be visible around district campuses for monitoring and intervention of attendance needs.
• Make home visits to discuss attendance issues with parents or guardians and students.
• Provide referral-driven and strengths-based intervention services to children and families where irregular attendance is an issue.
• Based on Oregon Attendance Laws, use necessary interventions for referred students with truancy issues.
• Provide early intervention services with referred students beginning to show irregular attendance.
• Research resource materials and best practices for school staff on attendance policies and programs.
• Participate in school/community collaborations to improve attendance services.
• Issue citations, prepare court reports, and attend school conferences as needed.
• Assist students to get to class promptly and monitor student conduct.
