Job summary

State of Indiana in Jeffersonville, Indiana, invites applications for a part-time Legal Assistant to provide paralegal and administrative support to local and agency attorneys within the Department of Child Services.

You will organize, process, and maintain DCS case records, assist with legal research, draft and file documents, manage calendars, coordinate hearing logistics, and help redact and distribute materials while upholding confidentiality and compliance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of legal procedures and terminology.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to work with sensitive documents and maintain confidentiality.
• A degree is not required; HS diploma or HSE may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provides administrative and legal support to attorneys and legal divisions.
• Performs legal research under the direction of staff counsel or administrative law judge.
• Assists at depositions and hearings by taking notes and keeping track of documents.
• Prepares, proofs, or processes legal documents, such as summonses, subpoenas, complaints, motions, or pretrial agreements.
• Mails, faxes, or arranges delivery of legal correspondence to clients and court officials.
• Schedules hearing dates and sites, manages calendars, and coordinates logistics.
