Job summary

Massachusetts AGO in Boston seeks an Assistant Attorney General to join the Constitutional & Administrative Law Division, handling appeals and civil litigation in state and federal courts regarding statutes, regulations, policies, and agency decisions.

The successful candidate will have MA bar membership, US District Court MA admission, 3–5 years of relevant experience, strong writing, and a demonstrated commitment to public service in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar or have a pending application for admission.
• Must be a member of the bar of the United States District Court for Massachusetts or be eligible for admission in short order.
• At least three (3) to five (5) years of relevant legal experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with constitutional law, administrative law, civil and appellate procedure, and trial practice.
• Effective legal writing skills and the ability to independently handle litigation in the trial and appellate courts.
• Demonstrated interest in public service and working in a collaborative, public-law environment.

Responsibilities

• Represent state officials and agencies in appeals and litigation in state and federal courts regarding state statutes, regulations, policies, and agency adjudicatory decisions.
• Provide guidance on state statutes, regulations, policies, and agency adjudicatory decisions to clients and agencies.
