Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals Correctional Health Services is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join the team on correctional health units and in jails across facilities. The role focuses on providing high-quality psychiatric care in a multi-disciplinary setting with a strong emphasis on psychopharmacology and patient education.

You will collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, and support staff, participate in care planning, and support reentry and MAT initiatives.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS license and registration to practice as an RN.
• Current NYSED Nurse Practitioner certification.
• BLS certification through AHA.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric care including admissions, follow-ups, and urgent consultations.
• Develop individualized treatment plans with the care team.
• Evaluate need for higher level of care and coordinate transfers when needed.
• Educate patients about medications and aftercare; document in EMR.
• Integrate nursing and medical concepts in planning care for psychiatric patients.
• Provide consultations to non-prescribing staff about diagnosis and treatment.
• Counsel patients using psychotherapeutic techniques; participate in team meetings.
• Supervise and mentor NP trainees; perform required administrative duties.
