Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a GS-07/09 level Physical Scientist to support the Office of Laboratories and Scientific Services in multiple duty locations nationwide, including Otay, CA.

Responsibilities include analyzing samples, reporting results, and advising on sampling/storage practices. The position requires a physical science (or related) degree with 24 semester hours and may involve rigorous pre-employment checks and residency requirements as part of DHS/CBP

Qualifications

• Basic degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics with 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering topics.
• Specialized experience options are described for GS-07 and GS-09 levels and include reporting, sampling, and analysis tasks.

Responsibilities

• Receiving samples submitted for analyses.
• Organizing and writing test reports and briefings, articulating technical findings and conclusions.
• Providing general advice to CBP employees on sampling and sample storage procedures.
