Job summary

Brookings School District 5-1 is seeking an Assistant Coach for high school and middle school programs. The role requires a valid SD teaching certificate with coaching endorsement and completion of the SDHSAA Coaches Education Program (Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid & Concussion in Sports).

Responsibilities include implementing the sport program, teaching fundamentals and plays, assisting with travel, budgeting, and practice preparation, and supervising student-athletes.

Qualifications

• Valid SD teaching certificate and coaching endorsement or the equivalent.
• SDHSAA Coaches Education Program (Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid & Concussion in Sports).
• Employment as a teacher or teacher aide preferred.
• Previous coaching experience in assigned sport desired.
• Knowledge and playing experience in assigned sport preferred.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of school and department policies.
• Knowledge of and compliance with pertinent SDHSAA and ESD regulations.
• Understanding of administrative line of authority and channels of communication.
• Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation in the program.
• Assists in travel arrangements, budgeting, and event management.
• Assists in preparation for practice, contests, and adheres to schedules.
• Provides documentation for SDHSAA and school district requirements.
• Supervises the use, inspection, and maintenance of athletic facilities.
• Provides training rules consistent with policy.
• Directs student managers and statisticians.
• Determines, implements, and communicates routine discipline.
