Job summary

Perry Township School District is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Southport Middle School. You will maximize learning for students with special needs by implementing district curricula and documenting progress while ensuring a safe and supportive classroom environment.

You will collaborate on IEPs, coordinate with families and outside agencies, and participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational practices.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Special Education principles, testing, methods, etc.
• Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

Responsibilities

• Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for identifying learning issues and recommendations.
• Participates in PPTs and assists in developing IEPs for students.
• Assists students and staff in implementing IEPs and behavior plans.
• Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
• Coordinates with administrators and staff to ascertain individual student abilities and needs.
• Serves as liaison between home and school to provide counseling and support.
• Maintains professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, and research.
• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers.
• Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Assists in orientation of new teachers and provides in-service training.
• Selects and requisitions books and supplies and maintains inventory records.
• Develop lesson plans using NIET Best Practice Instructional Rubric and participate in Cluster professional development.
