Qualifications

• Minimum of 30 college credits.
• Special Education degree or related field is required for pay rate in that category.
• Experience with children in group or classroom settings is preferred.
• Knowledge of special education terms and laws.
• Understanding of child growth and development.
• Experience with children with special needs or developmental needs.
• Knowledge of teaching principles and practices.
• Ability to form positive relationships with students, parents, aides and staff.
• Ability to follow instructions from the Office of Human Capital or site administration.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to respond to children's developmental levels and maintain consistent instruction.

Responsibilities

• Provides effective classroom management, clear instruction, and implements provided lesson plans. May develop and assess student achievement in long-term assignments.
• Uses diverse instructional materials and technology to enhance learning.
• Collaborates with other professionals to implement instruction and related activities.
• Maintains a healthy, safe, and conducive learning environment.
• Keeps accurate records and submits timely reports.
• Enforces district policies on student conduct and discipline.
• Monitors student behavior and intervenes as needed.
• Reports accidents, injuries and discipline issues to the appropriate authorities.
• Travels with students on field trips when required.
• Assists with mobility needs and equipment as required.
• Follows equal employment and nondiscrimination policies.
