Job summary

Ocean View Psychiatric Health Facility in Long Beach, CA seeks a Social Worker for the Psychiatric Adult Inpatient unit to provide psychosocial assessments, group therapy, and discharge planning.

Under supervision, you will coordinate care with internal teams and external agencies, participate in treatment planning, and respond to crises with clinical support. Strong English, documentation, and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field.
• 1–2 years of direct service in acute behavioral health inpatient setting.
• Knowledge of psychiatric/medical terminology and psychopharmacology.
• Ability to assess mental status and psychosocial needs of adult psychiatric patients.
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm in high-stress or crisis situations.
• Strong teamwork across disciplines and departments.
• Proficiency in computers and electronic documentation (EHR).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Fluent reading/writing in English.
• Current CPR, BLS, and First Aid certification within 90 days of employment.
• Understand Patients’ Rights, LPS Statutes, and Seclusion/Restraint Protocols.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop individualized goals with the team.
• Provide individual and group therapy using evidence-based approaches.
• Coordinate discharge planning to outpatient services, housing, and community supports.
• Facilitate crisis interventions and provide clinical support during emergencies.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to support patient care.
• Document patient progress and discharge planning in the EHR.
• Ensure adherence to facility policies and regulatory standards.
• Support IOP/PHP as needed based on census fluctuations.
