Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools in Washington is seeking a full-time teacher for an immediate start. The position is 1.0 FTE, 7.5 hours per day, 182 workdays per year, with a competitive salary based on the TEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The role focuses on planning engaging lessons, assessing student progress, implementing district curricula, maintaining records, and collaborating with staff and families to support student growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
• Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
• Ability to adhere to Tacoma Public School Board policies and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Develops, plans and strategizes a program of study based on learning needs and curriculum; creates a conducive learning environment.
• Assesses student growth and provides progress reports; assigns grades; refers students for evaluation as needed.
• Implements district philosophy and policies; manages classroom behavior; supports curriculum and program development.
• Prepares lesson plans; provides differentiated instruction and scaffolding; communicates objectives to students.
• Establishes open communication with students, parents, colleagues and community; conducts conferences as needed.
• Maintains records; uses data to plan and adjust instruction; tracks student growth with rubrics.
• Maintains safety and discipline; supervises students in various settings; utilizes resources to enhance learning.
