Job summary

Benton Harbor Area Schools is seeking a dedicated First Grade Teacher for Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary.

The teacher will deliver instruction from the district curriculum, develop lesson plans, and foster a classroom climate conducive to learning. Responsibilities include assessing student progress, communicating with families, and collaborating with specialists to support health, attitude, and learning needs.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with ZG endorsement.
• Minimum two years of successful teaching experience.
• Familiarity with virtual/online learning.
• Ability to incorporate technology into the classroom.
• Strong academic preparation and leadership ability.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proven ability to meet the challenges of an urban school district.

Responsibilities

• Teach core subjects to first grade students using the district-adopted curriculum.
• Develop lesson plans and provide individualized and small-group instruction.
• Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment.
• Assess student progress and maintain records.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other channels.
• Collaborate with staff to support students' health, attitude, and learning needs.
• Maintain inventory records of instructional materials.
• Administer group-standardized tests per district program.
• Participate in district professional development.
• Create engaging displays and bulletin boards.
• Supervise students during non-class time.
• Participate in curriculum development and committees.
• Represent the school district positively.
• Follow district policies and chain of command.
• Maintain regular attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
