Job summary

Austincc is seeking a Paralegal Specialist to support Assistant U.S. Attorneys for the Western District of Michigan in criminal and civil financial matters. The role focuses on preparing and filing legal documents, reviewing financial records, and coordinating with agencies to enforce judgments.

Responsibilities include interviewing debtors, assessing viable legal actions, and maintaining case files to meet strict deadlines. Training will expand assignments over time as experience progresses.

Responsibilities

Preparing a variety of substantive legal documents including motions, foreclosures, garnishments, and other post-judgment actions.
Conducting interviews of debtors, employers, and agency officials to assess pursuing legal action.
Investigating, reviewing, and summarizing the financial situation of a debtor to determine the most appropriate legal action pre- and post-judgment.
Processing debt collection claims referred from client agencies and debts arising from civil/criminal judgments.
Assignments cover the full scope of collection activities from initial review of claims to cost-effectiveness determinations.
Monitoring progress of pending cases and ensuring pleadings, forms, reports, and correspondence are prepared and submitted on time.
Performing ancillary support related to financial litigation actions, such as procedures, special projects, and reviewing databases and tracking systems.
