Job summary

Alexandria City Public Schools is hiring an English as a Second Language Teacher (Elementary) for a .5 FTE, 10‑month assignment reporting to the School Principal. The role develops bilingual students' English proficiency by delivering district curriculum, documenting progress, and supporting family involvement in learning.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree; a Virginia teaching license with ESL PreK‑12 endorsement or eligibility is required, with a Master’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required.
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• Virginia Department of Education Teaching Provisional license with ESL PreK-12 endorsement or eligibility upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Adapt instruction to meet individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
• Administer developmental testing and subject assessments to monitor progress.
• Communicate student progress with parents and administration; reinforce classroom goals at home.
• Collaborate with staff, families, and community resources to improve outcomes and achieve objectives.
• Manage classroom to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Prepare and maintain a variety of written records (grades, attendance, anecdotal records).
• Direct and supervise assistant teachers, student teachers, and volunteers as needed.
