Job summary

Los Angeles Times is launching The Answer Sheet, a one-year education initiative. The Reporter will develop a solutions-focused newsroom strategy, convene stakeholders, and engage communities to push for practical and evidence-based progress in California education.

The role requires classroom immersion, strong investigative instincts, and the ability to translate complex issues for educators, parents and students.

Qualifications

• Five years of journalism experience with enterprise and accountability focus.
• Familiarity with education landscape including policy and stakeholders.
• Multiplatform storytelling including video, social, newsletters.

Responsibilities

• Drive the editorial vision of The Answer Sheet with ambitious, solutions-oriented reporting.
• Identify and investigate why proven education solutions fail to scale.
• Report across California's education landscape focusing on underserved communities.
• Develop and sustain a newsletter that informs and engages stakeholders.
• Produce multiplatform content including vertical video and social stories.
• Respond to breaking education news as part of a team effort.
• Cultivate source networks among educators, administrators, researchers, students and families.
• Appear at virtual and in-person events and participate in podcasts and media appearances.
