Job summary

Battle Creek Public Schools is seeking District Substitute Teachers to provide consistent instructional support across assigned buildings when teachers are absent. This Edustaff position reports to the district and fills in where needed, maintaining classroom routines and safety.

The role requires strong classroom management, the ability to implement lesson plans, and collaboration with staff to support learning for students across grade levels.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 60 college credits with a 2.0 GPA or higher or a valid Michigan teaching certificate or Substitute teacher permit.
• Must meet district requirements.
• Experience with children or adolescents in educational settings preferred.
• Experience as substitute or paraprofessional preferred.

Responsibilities

• Report to the assigned school each workday and accept classroom or instructional assignments based on building needs.
• Provide classroom coverage for teacher absences, vacancies, meetings, or professional development.
• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities while maintaining continuity of instruction.
• Create and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
• Establish and maintain classroom routines, expectations, and appropriate student behavior.
• Engage students in learning and provide appropriate academic assistance throughout the day.
• Adapt instruction to meet varying student learning needs.
• Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff.
• Follow procedures related to supervision, safety, confidentiality, and emergencies.
• Communicate progress and classroom activities to the classroom teacher and/or administrator.
• Supervise students during instruction and other activities.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
