Job summary

Mass Audubon is seeking a Conservation GIS and Land Data Specialist. This full‑time role manages all records of Mass Audubon’s property interests using ArcGIS Pro, Landscape Land Conservation Software, and SharePoint, and supports land conservation and conservation science with GIS models and tools.

Responsibilities include maintaining definitive GIS layers, administering the Landscape database, conducting field surveys, and developing apps and templates for staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS or related field
• Passion for the environment and land conservation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS Pro
• Familiarity with field survey practices and techniques, including determining boundary locations and related monumentation
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage a large and diverse project load, identify and address priorities, complete assignments and meet deadlines
• Comfortable with traveling and working in the field alone
• Ability to traverse a variety of terrain on foot in adverse conditions
• Strong attention to detail, organizational and research skills
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly to Mass Audubon properties and other work locations throughout Massachusetts
• Ability and willingness to occasionally work long days in the field, evenings, and weekends
• Ability to work collaboratively and tactfully with a diversity of individuals and organizations

Responsibilities

• Maintain the definitive GIS layers documenting Mass Audubon’s legal property interests
• Administer and maintain the Landscape database as the central information access point
• Carry out property-related projects including ecological management and annual monitoring
• Serve as a point person for Landscape inquiries, conduct trainings, and document procedures
• Support annual monitoring of all properties owned in fee and site visit documentation
• Provide boundary information and support for field staff tools
• Update Mass GIS with land conservation holdings
• Develop GIS models and tools to support land conservation and conservation science
• Create GIS apps for staff use
• Maintain and distribute standard map templates and data layers for ArcGIS Pro
• Produce maps for land conservation and conservation science
