Job summary

Stanislaus County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services is seeking qualified candidates for Behavioral Health Specialist I/II. The role provides para‑professional counseling, referrals, and treatment planning across regional teams and outpatient programs, under supervision or independently as appropriate.

Ideal candidates have crisis intervention and counseling experience, CPR certification, and are prepared for field visits, group facilitation, and collaboration with multiple BHRS departments

Qualifications

• A combination of college coursework and work experience in crisis intervention or counseling as described in Patterns I–IV.
• Minimum qualifications include CPR certification and related field study or licensure as specified.
• Desirable candidates have lived or family experience with behavioral health services.
• Ability to work in residential, regional, or outpatient settings as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide mental health and supportive services to a varied caseload.
• Interview clients to assess service needs and risk factors.
• Develop and implement treatment plans with the treatment team.
• Coordinate with courts, guardians, and community service providers when needed.
• Lead or supervise other staff and provide training as required.
• Advocate for clients to access Medi‑Cal and other benefits.
